In recent weeks, Trump, seizing the role of both an erstwhile diplomat and ascending opposition party leader, has extended welcomes to a series of foreign leaders at his homes in Florida and New York. It’s not unusual for foreign leaders to meet with the leader of the party that doesn’t control the White House – especially one with a serious chance of becoming commander in chief. Biden and his top envoys have also met and spoken with opposition leaders, something that has been a longstanding practice for US officials. Last week, Trump met with Poland’s Duda at Trump Tower, where the two discussed NATO spending over dinner. Trump, both while president and during his 2024 campaign, has called on NATO countries to spend more on defense.

USA Cricket Vice-Captain Aaron Jones poses next to a giant cricket ball, installed at a marketplace to mark 100 days to go for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, in Miami, Florida, on Feb. 22, 2024. But the sport has boomed in India, the world's most populous country, as well as some other former British colonies. And now, the U.S. men's national cricket team will represent the home country in this year's International Cricket Council Men's T20 World Cup. While traditional cricket matches can last as long as five days, a T20 match typically lasts around three hours. The early June world cup matchups will bring some of that star power to the U.S., with a high-profile India-Pakistan competition and culminating in a U.S.-India match.

Then there is his $3.5 million Florida condo, which is not exempt. However, Giuliani has not taken any steps to sell the Florida home, the filing says. Creditors want to force Rudy Giuliani to sell his $3.5 million Florida condo to help pay his significant debts, according to a court document filed on Friday. For example, Giuliani spends tens of thousands of dollars a month to maintain his Florida condo. However, the document said, Giuliani spends "approximately 20-30% of his time in Florida" and therefore creditors claimed the $3.5 million condo must be sold. "It is merely a matter of when, not if, the Debtor will have to sell the Florida Condo in order to distribute the proceeds thereof to creditors," the filing said. Giuliani has claimed he cannot afford the insurance, the court document said.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Dallas, Florida and New York will host matches at next year's men's T20 World Cup, the governing body of cricket announced Wednesday. Venues in Grand Prairie outside Dallas and Broward County in Florida will be increased in size to expand seating, media and premium hospitality areas to enable them to host matches in the 20-team tournament, which makes it the biggest T20 World Cup yet. Florida also hosted recent T20s between India and the West Indies at Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill. The T20 cricket format is favored to be one of the sports added to the program for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, with decisions by the International Olympic Committee scheduled at meetings next month in Mumbai, India. Problems in talks between the IOC and the Los Angeles organizing committee on commercial issues have stalled the process.

In August, Rep. Jim Jordan helped launch a congressional inquiry into District Attorney Fani Willis. She responded on Thursday in a letter, claiming Jordan lacked "a basic understanding of the law." Willis suggested Jordan purchase a $249 law textbook to learn more about how RICO cases work. Believing that Jordan's RICO charge-related questions were "misinformed," Willis also suggested Jordan purchase and read a $249 law book, "RICO State-by-State." A representative for Rep. Jordan's office did not respond to Insider's request for comment.

Judges in Georgia rarely revoke bail and would be extremely unlikely to do so over social media posts or inflammatory statements on the campaign trail, according to legal experts. Trump is seeking the Republican nomination to face Democratic President Joe Biden in the 2024 U.S. election. His social media postings have become a point of contention in the Washington case in which he is also charged with election subversion. Trump's bond bars him from discussing the facts of the case with potential witnesses without lawyers present. Unlike in Georgia, it does not explicitly restrict his social media posts.

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally in Windham, New Hampshire, U.S., August 8, 2023. “It’s fair to say the standard protocols are not all going to be followed,” said former Secret Service agent and risk consultant Jonathan Wackrow. “But this is a former U.S. president who is under constant secret service protection. Trump supporters were expected to gather outside the jail in sweltering heat alongside a small army of reporters. A flier circulating online promised a peaceful demonstration at the jail situated off a quiet, tree-lined residential street in central Atlanta.

Former Georgia Lt. Gov Geoff Duncan, a Republican, said Saturday on CNN that he has been told to appear Tuesday before a Fulton County grand jury to testify about the efforts by Trump and his allies. Independent journalist George Chidi posted on social media later Saturday that he’d been told to appear before the grand jury on Tuesday too. The witnesses Willis has subpoenaed to testify when she presents her case include Duncan, Chidi and former Georgia state Sen. Jen Jordan, a Democrat. Georgia law is unusual in that special purpose grand juries – which have broad investigative powers – are not permitted to issue indictments. When the subpoenaed witnesses appear before the regular grand jury, those grand jurors will hear the witnesses’ testimony for the first time with a narrower purpose at hand: to approve or reject indictments.

We looked at the best-paying job for each state and Washington, DC, based on available averages. For our analysis, Insider only looked at jobs with at least 1,000 employees in the state and for which BLS published a specific average annual wage estimate. Most of the 22 states where this is the highest-paying job pay more than that, with a few paying over $300,000 on average.

Students nationwide who take medications that treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder are struggling to behave and concentrate due to a continuing shortage of the drugs, families and school officials say. Children who haven’t had access to their medications are experiencing problems ranging from getting suspended from school to having trouble sleeping, parents in Arizona and Nevada said. In places such as Florida and New York, classroom behavior is worsening due to the shortages, according to teachers and school psychologists. College students in Michigan and California have said their academic work has been negatively affected because they have not been able to get their prescriptions filled.
For other states to compete, they will need to pay attention to what Florida is doing right. Floridians pay no income tax and fewer taxes overall than people in states like New York, California, or Massachusetts. But a low tax rate isn't the only thing people care about. Despite having a budget half the size of New York's and a larger population, Florida, by many metrics, is able to do significantly more with the taxes it collects. Florida is also outshining New York and other major population centers in tackling the soaring cost of housing.
People look at the Golden Gate Bridge at a vista point during a rainfall on January 15, 2023 in Sausalito, California. Climate change poses a significant threat to the economies of U.S. cities, with metro areas like San Francisco, New York City and Phoenix among the most at risk of sea-level rise, extreme heat and water stress, according to a new report by Moody's Analytics. The report, which assesses which cities are most vulnerable or resilient to climate change, calculates its forecasts based on two different risk categories — the long-term exposure to drought, extreme heat and sea-level rise, and the short-term exposure to hurricanes, wildfires and floods. "Absent policy changes, large coastal states like California, Florida and New York are especially vulnerable, while more inland northern economies will emerge only slightly worse off, with a handful of small metro areas possibly benefiting slightly," wrote Adam Kamins, senior director at Moody's and author of the report. Among the metro areas that are the worst off are San Francisco, California; Cape Coral, Florida; New York City, New York; Long Island, New York; Oakland, California; and Phoenix, Arizona, the report found.
A U.S. permanent resident who managed Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg ‘s properties in Florida and New York has been charged with money laundering and sanctions evasion after fleeing the U.S., federal prosecutors said. Mr. Voronchenko, who was also charged with participating in an effort to sell two of Mr. Vekselberg’s properties, fled the U.S. in May after receiving a grand jury subpoena, prosecutors said. Mr. Vekselberg was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2018. After Mr. Vekselberg was sanctioned, the source of the funds used to maintain the properties changed, prosecutors said. Mr. Voronchenko was served with a subpoena to testify before a grand jury in May while on Fisher Island, prosecutors said.
Federal safety regulators fined Amazon $60,269 for putting workers at risk for back, joint injuries. Injuries linked to the "high frequency" of "repetitive tasks" at Amazon warehouses, regulators said. The citations are the latest in a series of regulatory actions targeting Amazon's warehouse injuries. Workers at Amazon warehouses are four times as likely to suffer such injuries as workers in non-Amazon warehouses, a review of Washington state workers' compensation data showed. Federal safety inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited three Amazon warehouses, in Florida, Illinois and New York.
Last week’s election defied expectations. Unprecedented, idiosyncratic state-specific patterns seemed to emerge instead, with Republicans doing well in Florida and New York, Democrats doing well in the Midwest, and election nail-biters unfolding in Arizona and Nevada. But perhaps the most important surprise of this election was how normal it was. None of the apocalyptic predictions about violence, suppression or fraud seemed to have materialized. We witnessed a successful process run by professionals working under incredibly difficult circumstances.
